Lowe Art Museum
The mission of the Lowe Art Museum, the art museum of the University of Miami, is to serve the University, the Greater South Florida communities, and national and international visitors as a teaching and exhibiting resource through its permanent and borrowed collections.
Lowe Art Museum is the largest collecting art museum in South Florida. As a part of University, it has really fresh mind focus on bringing the best possible art collections into town. Museum features 4 separate wings and offers eleven permanent collections as well as several temporary exhibitions at the time.
Lowe Art Museum permanent collections:
- Art of Africa – Focuses on all regions of African continent, with emphasis on Saharan and sub-Saharan regions. You are able to see traditional costumes, ritual objects, sculptures etc.
- Art of the Ancient Americans – Is mainly focusing on the original archeological objects of native North, South and Central America, from approx. 2500 BCE until the 1492, where this continent was discovered by first Europeans. Newer part of this exhibit is considered as art of Native Americans.
- Art of the Ancient Mediterranean – It’s main focus is on Greece and Romain Empire. Poetry, sculptures and also metal work dated approx. 100 BCE.
- Art of Asia – Very interesting exhibit of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Indian culture, costumes, poetry or architectonics.
- Art of Caribbean – Landscape, narrative, and portrait paintings, sculpture, works on paper, and photographs from the Caribbean Basin (including Cuba) dating from the 18th century to the present.
- Art of Central and South America – Is collection of sculptures, paintings and photographs of the Caribbean. Collection begins around 18th century all the way to present.
- Art of Egypt and Near East – Collection of ancient times ceramic, stone or metal objects.
- Art of Europe – covers the period from Middle Ages trough present. There are many paintings, sculptures, prints or photographs in this collection.
- Art of the Native Americans – Pottery, basketry, sculpture, costumes, and textiles of native North, Central, and South America, including Spanish Colonial art produced by native artists, from the post-European contact period starting in 1492 through the present. Works produced before 1492 are considered art of the Ancient Americas
- Art of North America – Covers the period between 18th century and now. Photographs, paintings and landscapes of United States and Canada.
- Art of the Pacific Islands – Ceremonial objects of the cultures of the Pacific, currently with an emphasis on the islands of Melanesia, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Parking:
A metered parking lot for visitors is located next to the Lowe Art Museum. Metered parking is also available on Stanford Drive and at Pavia Garage.
